TEACHING IN THE INTERACTIVE CLASSROOM - 3 credits PDMT 6000 level

This course is designed to introduce the digital interactive classroom. Participants will use the Smart interactive whiteboards and Smart Notebook software to explore and create interactive lessons by content level. This course will show teachers how to use the new Smart Senteo interactive response system that will be used as an assessment tool to support the classroom instruction. Other emerging technologies such as the tablet pcs, document cameras, classroom management software, ipods, and other web tools such as blogs and wikis will be used to support the interactive classroom.  More http://www.mec.edu/profdev/grad.cfm

INTEGRATING WEB 2.0 TOOLS IN THE CLASSROOM - 3 credit PDMT 6100

The internet is changing. The “new” internet is referred to as Web 2.0 or the Read/ Write Web. There are now a multitude of web-based tools available that can allow people, to write online documents, and share information with others through social

software like blogs and wikis and use video to support teaching. These tools can positively impact teaching and learning and the implications are significant. This course is designed to provide teachers with an overview of new internet technology tools (Web 2.0 tools, including Blogs, Podcasting, Wikis, RSS Skype, YouTube, TeacherTube, and more). This course will support differentiated instruction models of learning and can be applied to all grade levels and content areas (language arts, social studies, science, math, world language, music, special education, library/study skills, etc).

Dates: March 20, 21 and 22 (online) and April 10, 11 and 12th (online)

 

INTEGRATING WEB 2.0 TOOLS IN THE CLASSROOM -  (Part II) 

This course is designed to build upon “Integrating Web 2.0 Tools in the Classroom” course.  Students must have a working knowledge of Web 2.0 and use blogs, wikis and podcasts as part of their curriculum. This course will focus on integrating additional Web 2.0 tools into your teaching practice. The class will cover creating “best practices” using video and uploading to a Web 2.0 site (TeacherTube, YouTube, SlideShare and many other sites). Students will bring RSS feeds and tools into existing blogs and wikis to create projects based on Web 2.0 Tools. In addition, students will review emerging technologies and focus on teaching strategies for 21st century schools. This course will support differential instruction models of learning and can be applied to all grade levels and content areas (language arts, social studies,

science, math, world language, music, special education, library/study skills, etc). The new Massachusetts  Technology Literacy Standards and Expectations will be covered in the class along with the ISTE/NETS.
